Meet Mr. Cerveny
Mr. Craig Cerveny wants to make an impression.
He is a Cross Categorical Kindergarten (CCK) teacher at Douglas Elementary. Mr. Cerveny has been teaching students with special needs since 2006 and became Douglas’s CCK teacher in 2012. He loves teaching and finds unique ways for children to learn, using art, dance and music. He is grateful to be part of the #1 Magnet School in the Nation in 2016, Douglas Creative Arts & Science Magnet Elementary.
Mr. Cerveny graduated from East Carolina University, with a bachelor’s degree in Special Education and a minor in psychology. He spent 2 years after graduation working for a Mental Health Company as a Community Based Specialist Professional. During this time, he provided interventions in the school, home and community to children by implementing a specially designed treatment plan (much like an IEP). He developed strategies for coping with various social problems and anger management for his clients. These skills helped him transition into his role as a Special Education Teacher.
- Mr. Cerveny earned his National Board Certification in Early Childhood through Young Adulthood/Exceptional Needs Specialist in 2011.
- Craig has been a Teaching Fellow with the NC A+ Schools Program since 2017, and in this role has traveled throughout the North Carolina presenting and instructing other educators on best practices in arts integrated learning.
- He was nominated Teacher of the Year at Douglas ES 2017-2018 school year.
His expectations are high for all his students. Mr. Cerveny believes that a hard-working student is a successful student. He hopes to meet with you and your family. If you have any questions or concerns about your child's education, please contact him.
